Dr. Sartia Arya

M.Sc. Ph.D

Head and Scientist-F

Forest Genetics & Tree Breeding

Area Of Specialization:

My area of interests include use of various Tissue culture techniques for the multiplication and development of superior planting stock materials. Post – Doctorate from Sweden and United Kingdom, have expertise in Protoplast culture, somatic cell culture, transgenic, in vitro hybridization and micropropagtion technology. Twelve Ph.D. thesis have been awarded under my supervision and number of scholars are being currently supervised. Awarded with "Young Scientist Award "of Indian Botanical Society, and a recipient of National Overseas Fellowship & Common Wealth Fellowship of United Kingdom for higher studies.
Developed Tissue culture protocol's for economically important bamboo species. Superior clones of Delbergia sisso were also established in tissue culture. In Pinus roxburghii embryogenic cultures were successfully established, with the development of pure suspension cultures and protoplast culture system. Techniques were standardized for tissue culture plant production of FRI hybrids of eucalyptus. These hybrids yielded 3-5 times more wood volume over their parents. Developed tissue culture for various Bamboo species. Also developed protocol for micropropagation of medicinal plants Oroxylum indicum, Stevia rebudiana, Glycyrrhiza glabra, Gymnema sylvestre. Future interests : Genetic improvement through Tissue Culture.
